Follow-up from the First Word Boot Camp; April Word SIG

Based upon the feedback we heard and Class Evaluations that we received, I think that we can call the First Word Boot Camp a success. I want to thank the 20+ people that attended for their time and kind attention. I especially want to also thank the members of the staff of Calvary Church that were so very accommodating to our facility requests.

We could have, and should have, managed our time better. I apologize that we had to omit a couple of the demonstrations. To make up for this I plan on covering the skipped examples, and any questions that people may have, at the upcoming April meeting of the Word SIG, at 7:00pm on Wednesday night, April 11, at the Eagles Club (site of most TC/PC meetings), 9152 Old Cedar Avenue S, Bloomington, MN 55425; that's at the intersection of Old Cedar Avenue and Old Shakopee Road. We meet in the Meetings/Banquet Room. Click here for directions to the Eagles Club .

I apologize that the class handouts contained a few errors, particularly the incorrect rendering of what should have been keyboard characters. For those that would like to update their handouts I offer the following corrections:

  • Slide 4: Switching between applications = ALT-TAB (the ALT key along with the TAB key)
  • Slide 6: Keyboard shortcuts:
    Copy = CTRL-C
    Paste = CTRL-V
    Delete = CTRL-X
    Undo = CTRL-Z
    Switch applications = ALT-TAB
  • Slide 10:
    "Never" more than two consecutive like characters! E.g., ENTER SPACE TAB
    End paragraphs with ENTER
    Manual like breaks with SHIFT-ENTER
  • Slide 26: Use SHIFT-ENTER (manual line break)...
  • Slide 41: CTRL-TAB to get a real tab in a cell
I've created a .pdf version of the slides that may be downloaded with this link. Unlike the actual handout this version is the complete slides, in color, 1 slide per page. Please note that this file is approximately 2.5 MB; downloading should take between 6 seconds (high-speed broadband connection, e.g., cable or DSL) and 6 minutes (56 Kbs dial-up).
