Follow-up from the First Word Boot Camp; April Word SIG

Based upon the feedback we heard and Class Evaluations that we received, I think that we can call the First Word Boot Camp a success. I want to thank the 20+ people that attended for their time and kind attention. I especially want to also thank the members of the staff of Calvary Church that were so very accommodating to our facility requests.

Welcome to the Word Boot Camp Website!

This site contains information about the upcoming Word Boot Camp to be held in Roseville, Minnesota on Saturday, March 31, 2007 from 9:00 am until noon.

The title, Word Boot Camp, was chosen to convey the ideas of basics and intensity. This will be in lieu of the normal Twin Cities Personal Computer Users' Group (TC/PC) Systems on Saturday meeting that day. A meeting room at Calvary Church, 2120 Lexington Avenue N, Roseville, MN has been reserved.  This link may be used to get driving directions.

Unlike most of my Saturday morning sessions and the combined TC/PC mini'app'les Word SIG meetings, this session will have a prepared presentation that will cover using Word (or similar software, e.g., OpenOffice Writer) for basic word processing. The outline isn't final yet but it will certainly cover things like:

  • The Computer is NOT a typewriter. (Mac or PC bigots are free to substitute the platform of their choice for “computer” here.)
  • Show/Hide, and which to use when...
  • Setting margins
  • Find and Replace
  • Font attributes
  • Tabs
  • Paragraphs and manual line breaks; when to use them, which to use
  • What’s a style and why do I care?
  • Tables for layout control
  • And more, and more...

We will have tables (the kind with legs) set up for all attendees. You are welcome, and encouraged, to bring your laptop but this is not required.

There will be NO REGISTRATION FEE and this session is open to all attendees regardless of TC/PC or mini'app'les membership. Registration is requested, but not required. I would greatly appreciate knowing as early as possible how many will be attending. Please use the Feedback page on this website to contact me with any questions or to indicate your intention to attend.

This website will be update as additional information becomes available. Please check back regularly. Thank you.
